Residents of the Ogdensburg area and St Lawrence County –
Unfortunately the Governor's latest prison closure list has included another local employer that we can't afford to lose. This is a very personal topic for me because I have been an officer there for the last 8 years. OCF is a family-oriented place and we all look out for one another, that is the reason for this request. Many of us are exhausting all options to try to change the outcome of our jail and to keep the fate of many employed there at least stable a little while longer. We are collecting letters of support from local area businesses, proclamations from local town boards that represent all of our staff, and trying to shine a light on the issue that closing this jail will have on the local community, businesses, families of staff that will be required to relocate due to a lack of open positions at other area prisons. I personally have 21 years of seniority and my best hope is to land at one of the 3 Malone prisons. You can just imagine what the staff with less than 10 years will have to endure over the coming years: constant travel, loss of family time and undue financial hardship. I ask that as many individuals as possible please write a letter of support against closing our facility, so that we can show Albany that St Lawrence County residents stand united in this dreadful Governor’s attempt to appease the left with more coddling for criminals and no support for law enforcement. Thank you all in advance for your efforts, and you can email your messages to the address below to include your letter of support that we plan to deliver to Albany.
