2020 - Brenda L. Spurbeck (R, C, I)  -  County Legislature District 10

Saint Lawrence County government is facing a health care crisis that is affecting how our local governments serve our 100,000 residents. As a healthcare professional with 25 years of helping families and individuals, I believe I can bring a new and unique perspective to help our county legislature improve services to the people and families of our county.

After completing advanced studies in nursing—I received my Master’s degree from Vanderbilt University and my Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of South Alabama—I was recruited by a local pulmonologist to help treat patients with lung disease and impairments. I saw Potsdam as a place where I could use my skills and knowledge to provide family-first, patient-centered health care, and now, like many other Potsdam residents, I choose to live in our community because I see a beautiful place that offers a wonderful way of life.

I believe I can bring those same skills—evaluating complex situations, assisting patients and their families, and providing a caring and holistic approach—to the unprecedented health and social realities we are experiencing today. With so much of our county government’s budget and workload devoted to health care, social services, and other human services, I will collaborate with St. Lawrence County, other government agencies, and area not-for-profits to establish goals and promote positive outcomes that will improve the quality of health care and other social services for county residents of all ages.

Helping local governments to work smarter and more efficiently is the key to reducing costs and holding down the needless growth in government. Improving the quality of life for our citizens can actually cut our rising health care costs by reducing hospitalizations and keeping our residents in their homes longer.

Please consider electing a legislator who will bring a modern, family-first approach to the problems facing the North Country. I would welcome and appreciate your vote on November 3rd.

The Saint Lawrence County Republican Executive Committee on July 16, 2020 endorsed three excellent 2020 candidates for the County Legislative District (LD) seats that will be voted upon during the November 3 General Election in the county:
* Harry A Smithers II, for LD5 (Gouverneur and DePeyster);
* Brenda L Spurbeck, for LD10 (in part of the Village of Potsdam); and
* Chad Colbert, for LD11 (Stockholm and part of the Town of Potsdam).

Saint Lawrence County Republicans welcome these individuals to the contests, and look forward to assisting them in their efforts to continue improving the state of affairs here.
